(I surmise this is because a network connection is simply much slower at negotiating all the beginning / ending overhead involved in starting, writing, and completing any given file transfer.)You may be correct but what could also be much more significant is that you're comparing a one-step copy (SSD->NAS) vs a two-step copy (SSD->Mac->NAS)? And/or that you're running two different softwares running on different platforms, each having their own different characteristics?
